A photographic exhibit on the migration of Aymara peasants in Bolivia into urban settings like La Paz. Like many developing countries, Bolivians are experiencing the pain of leaving the countryside and moving to congested cities where there is no safety net as they have in rural areas among extended families and village neighbors. Bolivia is now considered a rogue state by the U.S. who reacted to the expulsion of DEA agents from the country by withdrawing the American ambassador and listing Bolivia as a leading source of cocaine traffic because of their continued harvesting of the traditional coca leaf. This exhibit dramatically chronicles the struggles of Aymara immigrants who comprise 30% of the Bolivian population.
