The Albuquerque Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society of America will hold an exhibit of members’ work at the Cathedral from June 7 to September 6, 2011. An opening reception will be held in the gallery on June 10, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. More than 75 large works and miniatures will be on display, representing as many as 25 artists.
Many of the participating artists are award-winning professionals whose work demonstrates the remarkable versatility of colored pencil as a fine art medium. Visitors will see loose impressionistic, experimental, abstract and semi-abstract work, as well as finely detailed realistic pieces.
The “look” of colored pencil changes with every surface onto which it’s applied. Artists add solvents and use burnishing techniques for even more variety in their colored pencil work. The surprise factor is commonplace. A remark that we hear again and again from people who see our work for the first time is, "That's colored pencil?!" This is an opportunity to see and enjoy loose impressionistic work as well as finely detailed realistic work by award-winning and emerging New Mexico Artists.
