Jason Robert Brown's musical, about a young couple who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, is so raw in its honesty and beautiful in its execution that anyone who has ever struggled with loving another person cannot help but feel the ache of promise or of disappointment. As Jamie sings to Cathy at a crisis moment in their relationship, "No one can give you courage; no one can thicken your skin. I will not fail so you can be comfortable…I will not lose because you can't win."
