Performance: Loot

Friday, September 09, 2011 - Sunday, October 02, 2011

Loot, Joe Orton's over-the-top British farce, has been described by USA Today as "Oscar Wilde crossed with Monty Python."

Loot follows the capers of Hal and Dennis, two young bank robbers who stash the loot in the coffin of Hal’s recently-deceased mother. Mrs. McLeavy's mummified body is subsequently relocated around the house in a frantic shell game. Add to this mix the bewildered widower, a "black widow" nurse who has already dispatched seven husbands and is looking for a wealthy #8, and a corrupt investigator posing as a worker from the Metropolitan Water Board to gain entry into the McLeavy residence. Beneath the hilarity runs a steady stream of Orton’s no-holds-barred jabs at greed and social hypocrisy.
